Thank you to Corn Belt Energy Corporation and Douglas County People's Utility District #1 for joining UTC recently as Core members! They know that UTC is all about telecom/IT, and that we are an excellent resource for regulatory advice and assistance on any network issue. We look forward to providing them with fresh research on next-generation utilities and emerging wireless technologies, giving them valuable industry data that could save them thousands of dollars over the course of the next year. Their staff also will be provided with many opportunities to network with peers and discover new ways to benchmark system performance. And we provide dozens of educational courses at significant member savings. As we gear up for our 60th anniversary, many utilities are considering the benefits of membership in UTC, and they are pleased to find that their entire team of telecom, IT, legal and public safety personnel can take advantage of our guidance, training, regulatory alerts and topic-specific working groups for one low annual fee that averages just a few dollars per day. If you have any doubt of the tangible value and cost-savings that membership can provide, we encourage you to visit www.utc.org/utc/special-membership-offer-utilities [5] for an exclusive offer and special savings available only to new energy and water company members. But hurry...this offer expires December 15, 2007!

UTC plans to launch new educational opportunities, provide new targeted discussion groups and much more in 2008. But if your membership isn't current, there's a chance that you will fall behind the utility telecom curve. And your utility may miss out on that all-important regulatory update that will keep you in compliance. No one wants this to happen. But UTC needs your financial support in order to continue offering these valuable services to you and your colleagues. Benefits to all non-renewing companies will be discontinued as of Friday, December 14, 2007. If you have any questions regarding your organization's renewal, please call Peter Doherty at 202.833.6809 or email him at peter.doherty@utc.org [8].

We want to offer you another opportunity to order UTC Research's recent reports if you haven't ordered already. UTC Research reports help utilities to make better, more informed decisions about the report's topic of interest. Each of the report names below links to an order form so you can easily purchase the report you need. UTC plans to release more reports soon, watch your inbox for more information! Smart Grid Applications: A Guide to Automation Applications and Vendors [17] New Wireless Technologies for Utilities [20] Wireless Pole Attachment Market Report 2007 [23] The State of Utility Fiber 2007 [26] NERC CIP Standards: Ten Steps to Compliance [29] Many of our 2008 research reports are still available to sponsor. We have many new research reports planned for 2008 and vendor partners may want to consider sponsoring research that highlights their area of focus. Even if you aren't interested in sponsoring a report, perhaps you'd like to have your company's white paper distributed to UTC membership. This is another benefit we are offering in 2008. For a list of upcoming projects or more information on white paper distribution, please contact research@utc.org [32].

Thank you to Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power, who have agreed to join the growing membership of the UtiliSite Council! Launched several months ago, the Council is an organization of utilities that offers a wide variety of support services for commercial wireless carriers, including; antenna sitings, traffic backhaul and construction. We enhance every member utility's ability to market their services to carriers through the collective strength of a central hub, working through UTC's main office to not only promote each utility's participation in the Council, but provide carriers with detailed information on partnerships available with utilities all across the country. UtiliSite Council members already represent over 36,000 available collocation sites. This is a very significant number in such a short time. We aim to be a "one-stop shop" for utility collocation opportunities. We also plan to be a reliable source for information on the best way to work with carriers, template contracts, and marketing of collocation opportunities. Your real estate is appealing to wireless carriers, and the Council can get your real-estate and collocation staff up to speed much quicker than it would take to grow your business alone. Principal membership for utilities is only $5,000. And to encourage you to join now, all utilities that agree to enroll for 2008 in writing will begin to receive benefits immediately and will receive the rest of 2007 at no charge. Visit us online at www.utilisite.utc.org [38] to find out more about the Council AND instructions on how to enroll. For more information, contact Peter Doherty, UTC's Membership Manager, at 202.833.6809 or peter.doherty@utc.org [39].

The UTC Apex Award [40] is going to be presented again this year during UTC TELECOM 2008. We know you have a story to share - the only question is - why haven't you submitted it? We encourage you to think about all the ways your utility telecom department helps the community and consider submitting that as a UTC Apex Award entry. If you are having problems putting it on paper, we have writers that can work with you. Please contact marketing@utc.org [41] or call 202.872.0030 for more information.
